It’s fully inhabitable for anyone to see and experience. You just create your avatar and use your keyboard and keys to move around in it as you would in any video game. Students can talk to each other and their tutors in it, as well as put their work on display.”
This Metaverse space isn’t confined to a particular field of study; it’s a versatile digital realm, applicable to various courses ranging from architecture and fashion to archaeology and engineering. As Roger puts it, “We’re only really limited by our own imagination.”
So, what can we expect from this thrilling development? Well, the possibilities are staggering. Film Production students, for instance, can now construct their own virtual sets in the campus’ TV studios, test the lighting, and refine their vision before bringing it to life in the real world.
Fine Art students can create virtual galleries, offering immersive displays of their work through interactive portals within this Metaverse space. It’s a game-changer that could revolutionize how we perceive and experience art.
A Boon for Education
For educators, this is a game-changer. Louise Ready-Syrat, the Programme Leader for BA Television and Radio Production, couldn’t be more thrilled: “The Digital Twin project will be a huge resource for the programme and the wider directorate of film, broadcast media, and creative technology. It is something that could showcase our students’ work and talents in a number of different ways, making it more inclusive and accessible to all.”
Similarly, Perelandra Beedles, the Programme Leader for Production Management for TV, Film, and Digital Media, highlights the benefits, “This project offers a number of exciting educational modalities for our students. The ability to recce studio spaces in advance of onsite production meetings offers a cost-effective and future-forward strand to current pre-production techniques.”

Joe Spencer, Head of Design at PixelMax, explains, “The product is a marriage of industry expertise and academic innovation. The opportunities for innovation are hugely exciting.”

This is just the beginning. The Metaverse space created is a blueprint, a testament to what’s possible when education meets innovation. Roger adds, “This is really just proof of principle here. It is not the finished article, and there is a lot more that you can do with this!”

This is made possible through Ready Player Me, an avatar system tailored for gaming and VR experiences.
