The platform, which marks Beatport’s first permanent home in the Web3 space, will enable labels and artists to create and sell unique digital assets while generating increased fan engagement.
It will allow artists, producers, and labels to enjoy the benefits of Web3 while offering music fans the opportunity to explore the value of digital collectibles and deepen their connection with their favorite artists and DJs.
Ed Hill, Senior Vice President of Beatport’s Media Group, said, “The electronic music community has always been at the forefront of cultural change and its early adoption of Web3 and all the promise it offers is no different. To usher in a new era in the electronic music industry, we felt it was important to join forces with a trusted and long-standing leader in the blockchain space. Polkadot’s open and interoperable ecosystem allows us to seamlessly leverage Web3 and celebrate electronic music by connecting fans with their favorite artists in new, unique and powerful ways.”
Björn Wagner, CEO of Parity Technologies, a major contributor to the Polkadot network, said, “Many in the music industry are eager to discover ways in which Web3 can better support them. The collaboration between Beatport and Aventus is an excellent illustration of Web3’s capability to enhance the skills of artists. We are excited to see this application of Polkadot’s technology to better connect artists directly with their fans and rekindle the collectible aspect of music fandom that has been largely lost in the digital media age.”
These digital collectibles will also become in some cases a fan engagement tool for artists and labels by providing early access to additional features such as unreleased tracks, discounted tickets, and access to global events and interactive experiences.
On a technical level, NFTs will be distributed through Aventus, a blockchain built on top of Polkadot that helps established companies deliver Web3 use cases from its broad set of modular and composable products.
Alan Vey, founder, and CEO of Aventus, “the Polkadot blockchain on which the NFT marketplace will be built, added: “The Web3 revolution has created incredible new avenues for artists to reclaim their autonomy and engage their fans. We are delighted to be part of this important effort for the music industry.”
This marketplace offers immense opportunities to provide fans with access to a variety of new content streams, creating communities with unprecedented loyalty, and for artists to reap the lion’s share of the benefits.
Apart from the introduction of Beatport.io, Beatport, and Polkadot plan to collaborate on ten significant events in the next 18 months. Each event will commemorate the release of a new NFT collection, which can be accessed via integrated Polkadot portfolios.
Beatport will produce these events, which will occur concurrently with significant music and Web3 events.
