The first Ivy League school to launch an educational program on the topic of the metaverse
The six-week program has been developed in partnership with Prysm Group, a leading economic consulting firm specializing in emerging technologies.
It is designed for business and technology professionals who want to learn about the metaverse and its related technologies.
What will you benefit from this program?
Participants will learn about the economic and technological elements that will drive the development of the metaverse, and how companies and creators can extract value from emerging technology in the coming years.
Through immersive activities, program participants will also experience first-hand use of metaverse technology for an interactive learning experience.
Program highlights include six industry case studies and more than 50 program lecture videos featuring six Wharton faculty and a dozen industry experts.
Their goal is to enable students to align theory with practice and give them the tools they need to engage with emerging technologies that power the metaverse in a business context.
Industry case study topics range from how large legacy companies can use metaverse technologies in both B2C and B2B environments to tactics companies can employ to ensure that customers participate in virtual worlds safely and appropriately.
Along with Prysm Group, other guest speakers at the program come from companies that have been active in the metaverse, blockchain gaming and Web3 space, including Adobe, Animoca Brands, Hellenic Parliament, Magic Leap, R/GA, RLY Network, Second Life, Snap, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Unity.
The program was created to provide business leaders with frameworks to develop models and strategies that can capture value in the emerging metaverse market, which global banking giant Citigroup estimated at $13 trillion by 2030.
Citigroup advises that sectors such as retail, art, media, advertising, healthcare, gaming and social collaboration will benefit from the metaverse.
“We have designed this program for business professionals and executives from a variety of fields, including finance, management and technology,” says the program’s academic director, Professor Kevin Werbach of the Wharton School. When asked about the goals of the program, Professor Werbach says, “The metaverse is an important and broad phenomenon that is not yet well understood. We hope to equip business leaders, consultants and entrepreneurs with an understanding of the impending opportunities offered by the metaverse, as well as the practical knowledge to build valuable solutions.”
The metaverse and education
The University of Tokyo announced last Monday that it will offer engineering-related study programs in the metaverse to address the shortage of professionals in “digital transformation” and “advanced technologies.”
