Zestworld, a creator-focused digital comics platform launched today. It is a digital commissioning tool that allows fans to get in touch with their favorite artists and order custom works from them.
Seven Seven Six creator and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian was one of the first to put it to the test.
He collaborated with award-winning comic book artist Amanda Conner to make an NFT featuring his wife Serena Williams and daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. as superheroes.
I commissioned the incredible @AmandaRantsAlot to create this custom NFT artwork of Serena & Olympia for them. The first ever from @zestworldcomics new digital commissions tool. Now we’re creating comics in Web3 🦸 pic.twitter.com/3fYIetiWf7

Corner said he was terrified when he was asked to do it. I’m going to do it, but I really hope she likes it, was all he could think.
Ohanian, who also invested in Zestworld wanted a traditional superhero. He wanted “extremely Kryptonian” items.
Conner and Ohanian’s collaboration may have been unusual but the new digital commissioning tool should make it easier for fans to interact directly with the artists.
Chris Giliberti, co-founder and CEO of Zestworld, says that both artists and fans find the current procedure cumbersome. Digital commissions are usually handled through email or direct messages from the artist. At a meeting, there may be an opportunity to see an artist in person, but COVID and rising travel costs make things difficult.
This tool is accessible at a time when NFTs continue to be a means for artists and collectors to benefit from digital artwork.
The rise of NFTs also corresponds with an increase in digital comics subscriptions, indicating not only a willingness, but a preference to view art in a digital environment.
While not as well known as print comics, digital comics have become more popular than many people realize.
