Lowes, Louis Vuitton and eBay have filed new metaverse and NFT trademark applications that signal new plans in the Web3 space, a series of tweets from trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis has revealed.
The three companies’ new trademark applications were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 23.
Lowe’s
Lowe’s filed two new trademark applications for its name and “Lowe’s Open Builder.”

- The applications cover NFTs; digital art, photographs, images, videos or audio recordings, production and modification of animated and non-animated digital designs and characters, images, avatars, digital overlays and skins for access and use in online environments, online virtual environments and extended reality virtual environments.
- Retail and online storefront services offering physical and virtual home improvement goods and services for use in the metaverse.
- An online marketplace for buyers and sellers of NFT-authenticated downloadable digital home improvement goods, services and experiences.
Last week, Lowe’s launched a project visualization service in the metaverse that allows customers to use metaverse assets to visualize their home improvement projects.
Louis Vuitton
Luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton has filed four new trademark applications for its name, logos and monogram, indicating that it plans to create “phygital” products. The new trademarks cover the following Web3 products and services:

- Provision of an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of virtual goods, digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens
- Financial services related to virtual goods, places or characters, digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens
- Custom physical manufacturing of digital footwear, apparel, hats, bags, backpacks, masks, jewelry, animated and non-animated digital designs and characters, avatars, digital overlays, skins, artwork and digital collectibles

In April, Louis Vuitton announced that it will launch new TFNs as rewards for players of its blockchain game, Louis Vuitton: The Game, which launched last year.
Players who reach a certain threshold in the game will have the opportunity to participate in the TFN sweepstakes that will run until August 4.
The sweepstakes will distribute 10 new NFTs featuring Vivienne, the game’s character, who is wearable and can be used as an avatar.
eBay
- Finally, eBay introduced two new trademarks for its name, indicating that it plans to expand into computer software for NFT management and verification.
- Operate online marketplaces for buyer and seller transactions of virtual goods and NFTs, using blockchain-based software technology and smart contracts.
- Provide computer software for the creation, purchase and sale of digital asset rights.
Provide a marketplace for buyers and sellers of non-fungible tokens.
eBay Inc. is coming to the Metaverse!

The new apps come shortly after eBay partnered with OneOf to launch its first NFT collection featuring Canadian field hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.
Ebay also acquired NFT marketplace KnownOrigin last week.
