AI company Web3, Altered State Machine, today announced a partnership with FIFA to launch an “intelligent soccer” gaming experience called AI LEAGUE: FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022 EDITION, ahead of the real-life FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Altered State Machine connects the AI with the game’s metaverse and characters.
For the game, which kicks off with a prediction challenge on November 20, Altered State Machine will introduce AI characters to the casual gaming audience. The announcement comes amid FIFA’s commitment to developing new soccer game titles for fans.

FIFA and Altered State Machine
FIFA will work with Altered State Machine as part of the Futureverse ecosystem to create an exciting new online gaming experience for soccer fans.
In the AI-powered soccer game, players will be able to build their own teams and compete against others, allowing soccer fans to take their first steps into the metaverse with AI.
“The launch of our FIFA World Cup AI league is an exciting step towards our mission to bring players into the world of AI gaming in the metaverse, and we are honored to build the first Web3 game with FIFA,” says Aaron McDonald, co-founder of Altered State Machine. He added, “We want to bring the world’s most popular sport to the metaverse.”
The FIFA WORLD CUP AI LEAGUE 10-week prediction component is built to complement the real-time World Cup tournament, with AI-driven gameplay to follow.
At launch, players will be able to predict real-world matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, where they can climb the leaderboard and win digital and physical prizes.
By participating in the prediction game, players will unlock four unique collectibles that will become their AI smart players in The FIFA WORLD CUP AI LEAGUE and will be able to compete against other AI players.

The launch of the AI-based game marks another step for FIFA in expanding its Web3 strategy.

In September, FIFA launched its NFT platform, FIFA+ Collect, which allows soccer fans to own and collect FIFA World Cup moments.
In May, soccer’s governing association partnered with Algorand for a sponsorship and technical partnership agreement. In this partnership, Algorand will become the official blockchain of FIFA and power FIFA +Collect.
With the latest announcement, FIFA issued a press release titled “FIFA unveils a range of new web 3.0 games ahead of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022”. This new range of games includes the following:
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition, which is a casual 4-on-4 soccer game that, according to reviews, has nothing special or even basic features of Web3 games.
The second is FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Upland Metaverse, which is the largest real-world blockchain-based map, according to the press release. In it, players can buy or sell virtual properties, which gives it a feel of the 2021 metaverse projects. Basically, nothing new came from it as well.
The third Challenge of the Day: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition, which is based on soccer cards.
The fourth is FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Phygtl, a fan engagement mobile app. Critics showed their disappointment with this one, saying it doesn’t even look like a game, but a blockchain fever dream.
