hi, the cryptocurrency and fiat money financial app, has launched the world’s first debit card with NFT avatar personalization in partnership with Mastercard. This allows cardholders to customize the face of their debit cards with the NFT avatars they own.

hi debit card: here’s what you need to know

The hi debit card is available in six variants with a range of benefits, depending on the level of hi membership. Membership is obtained by wagering the hi token, and starts at the equivalent of €10:

  • Spend fiat currency, stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies at any Mastercard merchant worldwide.
  • Rebate of 1-10% of spend
  • Rebate on 1-20 digital subscriptions
  • Fund your card instantly via SEPA or FPS with euros or sterling using a personal IBAN
  • Guaranteed best rates and other benefits at 5-star hotel partners worldwide
  • NFT personalization for Gold members and above, which allows personalization of the card face with an NFT avatar that you own, as long as it meets Mastercard’s card design standards.

“NFT cards not only look amazing, but it’s a great way for people to show what community they belong to online, but in the real world,” says Sean Rach, co-founder of hi. “The flexibility to spend fiat, stablecoins or other cryptocurrencies, combined with attractive financial and lifestyle rewards, makes us confident that our card is a game changer in the marketplace.”

However, only hi Gold members and above will be able to access NFT avatar customization, which will support a limited range of NFT collections, such as CryptoPunks, Moonbirds, Goblins, Bored Apes and Azukis. NFT owners will be asked to verify that they own the NFT in order to apply for card customization.

“As consumer interest in cryptocurrencies and NFT continues to grow, we are committed to making them an accessible payment option for communities that wish to use them. We are proud to work with hi to continue to drive innovation in the marketplace and enable these customizable cards along with the security expected from Mastercard,” says Christian Rau, Senior Vice President of Crypto and Fintech Enablement at Mastercard.

The hi debit card will initially be available to hi members in more than 25 EEA countries, as well as in the UK. Members of hi Gold and above will be able to customize the NFT avatar, which will support a limited range of NFT collections, such as CryptoPunks, Moonbirds, Goblins, Bored Apes and Azukis. NFT owners will be asked to verify that they are NFT owners in order to apply for card personalization. The hi debit card will be issued by Moorwand.

Mastercard and Web3

Mastercard has been working to drive widespread adoption of NFTs through partnerships with various Web3 platforms.

In January, it joined forces with Coinbase to enable users to pay for NFTs using Mastercard credit/debit cards.

In April, Mastercard filed 15 trademark applications to offer financial services in the metaverse.

In June, Mastercard announced a cross-platform partnership with Immutable X, Candy Digital, The Sandbox, Mintable, Spring, Nifty Gateway and Web3 infrastructure provider MoonPay to enable NFT trading on Web3 platforms.

And a few months in Miami, it joined forces with TIME US and Salesforce to launch NFTs later this year.
