Since its appearance in the 1985 film Back to the Future, the DMC DeLorean has gone on to become one of the most iconic cars in cinema.
In terms of its design, this vehicle was notable for featuring gull-wing doors on its bodywork, as well as unpainted stainless steel panels.
After almost four decades since its debut, it seems that someone decided to bring the DeLorean out of its lethargy to update it and present it to the new generations, but this time as an electric car.

DeLorean Motor Company is responsible for this project, which since 2008 had expressed its intentions to bring this car model back to life, but due to the shortage of parts and lack of an engine supplier had to give up the idea.

Now the manufacturing company has brought the Alpha5, a version that preserves in its aesthetics the aspects of the original design of the 80s, but giving it a more futuristic look.
Its design is signed by Italdesign, as was that of the DMC-12, and maintains several iconic aspects, such as the gull-wing design doors, but with aesthetics of fine and elegant lines to give it a “more current” look.
The Alpha5 will reach a top speed of 241 km/h, and will have the power to go from 0 to 96 km/h in 3.4 seconds, according to DMC. The estimated range in EPA cycle will be 483 km, with its 100 kWh battery.
It also highlights the improvements made in the technical part as it is a faster and more efficient car. In that sense, the new electric DeLorean far exceeds the 141.6 kilometers per hour reached by the original DeLorean in the first Back to the Future movie, being that it can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.99 seconds and from 0 to 142 kilometers in 4.35 seconds.
The mechanics present in this model is endowed with the ability to reach a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
Also, this model of electric car has enough space to accommodate four passengers, thus surpassing the boarding of the original model of the 80s.
The Alpha5 is scheduled to be unveiled at an event on August 21.
In addition to this, DeLorean Motor Company said that they will produce different configurations of this model, so that interested people can buy one with a greater range or higher acceleration speed than those mentioned in this post.
Although its price was not disclosed, it is estimated to range between $150,000 and $175,000.
Its initial production run is expected to be only 88 units. Prices have not yet been disclosed, but it has been announced that the first deliveries will take place in 2024.
The DeLorean Alpha5 is only the first model of what will be the resurgence of the brand. The company has announced that it will later launch other vehicles and that, moreover, not all of them will be electric.
