Spotify is testing a new service that could revolutionize the way listeners engage with curated playlists. The service, known as “token-enabled playlists,” permits holders of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to connect their wallets and revel in exclusive access to specifically curated tunes.
The pilot is currently handiest available for Android users in the U.S., U.K., New Zealand, Australia, and Germany. The provider is available to token holders in the Fluf, Kingship, Moonbirds, and Overlord communities.

Token-Enabled Playlists: How It Works
Token-enabled playlists will be updated during the three-month trial period and will only be accessible to members of the community via a unique link.
Overlord, a Web3 gaming and media universe, announced that holders of its Creepz NFT project can connect their Web3 wallet on Spotify to access the project’s community-curated “Invasion” playlist.
According to the screenshot shared by Lead Developer for NFT liquidity protocol NFTX Apoorv Lathey, NFT holders can connect their MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Ledger Live, or Zerion wallets to access token-gated playlists created by NFT bands like KINGSHIP.

The KINGSHIP playlist features some of the greatest music icons of all time, such as Queen, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, and Led Zeppelin.

Spotify’s Response
A spokesperson for Spotify confirmed that the company “routinely conducts a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience.”
The spokesperson also stated that some of those tests pave the way for the broader user experience while others serve only as important learnings.
However, Spotify did not provide additional details on plans to roll out the feature more broadly in the future.
The Future of NFTs in Music Streaming
Spotify’s token-enabled playlists could be a game-changer in the music streaming industry.
The global streaming platform, which has over 489 million users, previously experimented with integrating NFTs into its service in May 2022.
The service allowed a select group of artists such as The Wombats and Steve Aoki to promote NFT on their profiles.
Meanwhile, other Web3 music platforms like Audius, Royal, and AnotherBlock have emerged to decentralize the music listening experience.
For example, Audius is a cryptocurrency-linked streaming service that allows you to earn AUDIO token rewards for interacting with its app, and on the other hand, Royal and AnotherBlock allow creators to sell their music royalties as fractional NFTs.
