The term haptic is used to refer to that which is related to touch, that is, which makes possible the perception of sensations in terms of temperature, pressure and contact.

HaptX

HaptX, which recently unveiled its Haptic G1 gloves, will be accompanied by an air compression backpack weighing just over 7 kilograms, from which air will be injected into hundreds of microfluidic actuators that will help physically move the skin.

Also, the gloves will be available in four sizes, while the company will offer a package of four sizes, which can be purchased for a value of 18 thousand dollars.

Did you miss HaptX's biggest announcement in our 10-year history? Catch the replay of our biggest product release: hear HaptX Founder/CEO Jake Rubin + CRO @joemich reveal the #haptics product that will bring touch to a new level. https://t.co/tbt3g8jLqI #VR #telerobotics pic.twitter.com/UhkuP0fkgK

— HaptX (@HaptX) October 26, 2022

It is worth mentioning that at the moment of acquiring the gloves, the wearer will have to subscribe to an additional plan that has a monthly cost of 500 dollars for service and maintenance.

Regarding HaptX, this company has never disclosed the prices of its previous development kits, although it is believed that these could be around five figures.

In the case of the Haptic G1 gloves, the company said that these will be priced at a fraction of the cost of its previous DK2, i.e. $5,500.

And although the price is still considered inaccessible for many people, the progress achieved shows the perseverance and effort put by this company to achieve an increasingly realistic sense of touch in virtual reality.

The G1 haptic gloves

The G1 haptic gloves have features that make them suitable for use in a business environment, taking into account that backpack PCs have become a widely used resource in companies and VR rooms, making these can have other options beyond the controls or tracking with the hands.

The new HaptX Gloves G1 have a number of exciting features designed to meet customer needs.

These include improved ergonomics, wireless mobility, multiplayer collaboration and new haptic functionality.

Jake Rubin, CEO of HaptX, said:

“With the HaptX Gloves G1, we make it possible for organizations to take advantage of our real haptics,” and further, “Touch is the cornerstone of the next generation of human-machine interface technologies, and the opportunities are endless.”

According to the company, the HaptX Gloves G1 leverage advances in materials science and the latest manufacturing techniques to deliver the first haptic gloves that fit like a conventional glove.

The HaptX Gloves G1’s soft, flexible materials provide an exceptional level of comfort and dexterity.

The gloves feature hundreds of microfluidic actuators that physically move the skin when interacting with virtual objects, resulting in a realistic touch sensation.

To create a realistic sense of haptic response, the G1 Gloves incorporate a lightweight, wireless Airpack that generates compressed air and precisely controls its flow to create that physical response.

The Airpack can be worn comfortably on the body in backpack mode for room-scale applications or placed on a table for seated or standing applications.

On a single charge, the Airpack offers 3 hours of use without having to connect to external air or power, making the gloves perfect for business, military and educational use.

The HaptX SDK offers a variety of features designed to make it easy for developers to create custom applications.

These include advanced vibrotactile feedback technology, which is used to simulate microscale surface textures.

There is also the ROS node, which allows telerobotics operators to control the end effectors of their robots using the Gloves G1.

The device also includes a number of plugins for Unity and Unreal Engine, as well as a C++ API.

To celebrate the launch of the HaptX Gloves G1, the company is accepting pre-orders. For a limited time, organizations can pre-order a pair of gloves for $5,495.

Some money can be saved by purchasing a four-pack of sizes for $4,500 a pair.

Joe Michaels, chief revenue officer at HaptX, said:

“Too often, we see companies and industry leaders turn to the use of game controllers to interact with applications in the metaverse.”

He further added:

“Organizations developing their metaverse strategy have a solution for tactile feedback so effective that their jobs can depend on it.”

Along with pre-orders and a discounted bundle option, HaptX is also introducing a HaptX Subscription program, a Hardware-as-a-Service model that provides cost-effective, turnkey product deployment and support for enterprise customers.

For the HaptX Subscription you will receive an Airpack, the HaptX SDK and a service and maintenance plan.

Use of HaptX Gloves G1 requires a HaptX subscription starting at $495 per month. Customers pre-ordering HaptX Gloves G1 need only place a small deposit on the cost of the gloves.

Closer to the date of shipment of their HaptX Gloves G1 systems, customers will be able to select glove sizes and subscription options.

HaptX Gloves G1 will ship in the third quarter of 2023.

For more information on HaptX G1 gloves, pre-orders, packages or their subscription model, please see their website.
