The Absolut Company has filed a trademark application to bring “Malibu,” its best-selling Caribbean rum, into the metaverse and the non-fungible token (NFT) space.

According to the application, filed with the USPTO on Dec. 27, the company intends to offer:

  • Virtual alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages;
  • NFTS;
  • Mobile application software and cloud-based solutions for trading, storing, sending, receiving and transmitting cryptocurrencies and NFTs;
  • Virtual product stores;
  • Virtual bars and/or restaurants with virtual food and beverage and home delivery.

Michael Kondoudis, an attorney specializing in Web3-related trademarks and applications, tweeted the news recently.

Apparently, The Absolut Company wants to launch virtual alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and virtual wearables in the metaverse. In addition, the beverage brand wants to offer downloadable software, mobile apps and cloud-based solutions for processing cryptocurrency-related transactions.

Absolut also intends to provide cloud-based solutions for cryptocurrency and NFT trading, storage and transfer. The other plan is to launch an NFT marketplace for digital media and virtual assets.

Malibu and Web3

Absolut Company’s Malibu is not the first branded beverage to register trademarks for Web3 purposes. Last September, Moet and Jack Daniel’s also filed for registration to enter the metaverse and the NFT space.

Malibu has already organized a metaverse experience for the Coachella festival for a fortnight in April. Absolut.Land in Decentraland offered users exclusive equipment and the chance to win NFT wearables.

Luxury beverage companies on the Web3

Luxury beverage companies that have joined the metaverse include Johnnie Walker whiskey, Patrón tequila, and Rémy Martin and Hennessy cognacs. In addition, there is an NFT marketplace, BlockBar, devoted entirely to spirits.

Other beverage companies have debuted on the NFT through BlockBar, an NFT marketplace for spirits and wines; brands include Monkey Shoulder, Ardbeg Fon Fid, Patrón Tequila, Glenfiddich and others.
