Linden Lab announced that it has just acquired Caspertech, which is a Second Life company well known for its rental providers that allow residents to rent land or other locations in Second Life to other residents instead of having to deal with the Lab.
For the past several years, they have been the dominant company in that market.
On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, Linden Lab announced the acquisition of CasperTech, the multi-product and multi-service company founded by Casper Warden.

Founded 13 years ago, CasperTech is best known for its business support services such as CasperLet (for rentals) and CasperVend, a comprehensive, easy-to-use networked sales and sales management system for Second Life, along with a number of products ranging from rezzing systems to security orbs.
This company made a foray into providing an online marketplace presence as an alternative to The SL Marketplace, in the form of PrimBay, a service that had been designed for merchants operating in SL and other virtual worlds.
Over the years, CasperVend has proven to be a reliable service for Second Life merchants, providing a wide range of in-world point-of-sale and product delivery solutions, backed by tools and capabilities that have made the system indispensable for SL content creators and merchants in selling their products.
It is this service that is likely to have been key to Linden Lab’s decision to acquire CasperTech.
Also, following this announcement a pre-recorded Lab Gab session was aired featuring Patch Linden and Casper Warden.
In releasing the news Patch Linden said:
This acquisition will ensure that all of Caspertech’s current Second Life services continue to operate without interruption for the foreseeable future, but it also opens up new opportunities to greatly enhance our users’ experience as our next step in the Caspertech and Second Life journey.
You can expect the same services you know and love to continue, with all the same features you enjoy today, but with greater integration into the Second Life ecosystem and therefore an even more realistic and comfortable experience.
We would not have gone ahead with this move if we were not absolutely certain that it will be a positive change for all Caspertech residents and customers.
Understandably, Linden Lab’s acquisition of a company like CasperVend may raise concerns among service users.
To that end, Linden Lab has opened a thread where questions and/or concerns can be raised, with answers provided directly by them. so if you have questions, whether as a user of CasperVend or other CapserTech services and products, please ask your questions there.
