HyperPlay Announces $12M Series A Investment

The game launcher, which is native to Web3 and developed in collaboration with MetaMask, is concluding its inaugural funding round with the support of prominent industry leaders Griffin Gaming Partners and BITKRAFT Ventures.

Delaware — June 8, 2023 — Today, HyperPlay, a game launcher and aggregator that operates on Web3 technology and combines various game stores, revealed that it has secured $12 million in Series A funding. This investment round was jointly led by Griffin Gaming Partners and BITKRAFT Ventures.

The funding round also included participation from ConsenSys, the parent company of MetaMask, Ethereal Ventures, Delphi, Game7, Mirana Ventures, Monoceros Ventures, and other notable investors. HyperPlay, launched in November last year, emerged as a collaborative effort between MetaMask, a leading self-custody Web3 wallet, and Game7, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) dedicated to constructing Web3 gaming infrastructure.

The primary objective of HyperPlay is to establish interoperability as the standard for all Web3 games. This is achieved through a wallet overlay integrated with games, enabling players to seamlessly utilize their MetaMask wallet within both native and browser-based games.

“HyperPlay establishes a welcoming and developer-friendly environment, fostering technical innovation within the gaming industry and delivering greater value to developers compared to conventional frameworks. The platform aims to enhance the overall user experience for gamers across all games by implementing a persistent data layer for seamless exploration, assets, profiles, achievements, and more. We greatly appreciate Jacob’s significant contributions to the success of MetaMask, and we are thrilled about the strong partnership between HyperPlay, the MetaMask team, and Game7,” stated Pierre Planche, Partner at Griffin Gaming Partners.

The last two years have seen tremendous growth in Web3 gaming, but most Web3 games have still been structured as walled gardens that lack the kinds of interoperable use cases that Web3 game developers want to build.

Game developers who opted to incorporate enhanced Web3 functionality into their games encountered challenges such as censorship, de-platforming, and burdensome taxation imposed by web2 giants like Apple and Steam. This fundraising effort highlights the urgent requirement for seamless interoperability throughout the Web3 gaming ecosystem.

After successfully completing the Series A funding round, HyperPlay has set its sights on expansion. The company aims to amplify the capabilities of its flagship game launcher and extend its global reach.

“We are truly impressed by HyperPlay’s dedication to prioritizing developers, positioning them as the preferred game launcher in the Web3 realm. By empowering game developers with the flexibility to deploy on their chosen blockchain and enabling players to seamlessly carry their wallets, NFTs, tokens, and achievements across multiple games, HyperPlay stands out from its competitors. The launcher also offers unparalleled user convenience and usability. We envision a future where HyperPlay extends its influence to mobile platforms and web2 games,” remarked Malte Barth, a Partner at BITKRAFT Ventures.

“HyperPlay empowers developers to create innovative gaming experiences utilizing MetaMask. We are thrilled to provide ongoing support to HyperPlay as it disrupts not only the Web3 gaming sphere but also the broader Web2 gaming industry,” stated Ezgi Cengiz, Senior Product Manager at MetaMask.

HyperPlay takes pride in catering to the needs of both developers and users. Unlike Apple and Steam, which impose a 30% tax on game developers, HyperPlay remains committed to supporting developers.

HyperPlay does not levy any taxes on in-game economies and instead generates revenue through optional features like on-ramping or token swaps.

From the user’s perspective, HyperPlay offers comprehensive support for all EVM-compatible chains, allowing players to seamlessly integrate their wallets, tokens, and NFTs into both native and browser games.

The HyperPlay launcher incorporates an in-game wallet overlay, eliminating the inconvenience of exiting the game and visiting a separate website for NFT transactions.

While HyperPlay extends its support to games on all MetaMask-compatible chains, they have also hinted at exciting upcoming features exclusively tailored for Mantle L2. Mantle L2 is an Ethereum scaling solution specifically designed to enhance gaming experiences.

“Since announcing HyperPlay in November of last year, we’ve been focused on building a platform that empowers both developers and users to effortlessly navigate the Web3 gaming realm,” said JacobC.eth, Founder of HyperPlay. “We look forward to leveraging the capital raise to strengthen our product as the premier Web3 gaming platform and continue to expand our global footprint.”

HyperPlay’s announcement of its Series A funding coincides with the upcoming 3XP Gaming Expo organized by Game7. This event serves as a platform to unite brands, influential publishers, and industry visionaries to collectively shape the future of gaming. As of now, HyperPlay’s game store features an impressive selection of over 33 Web3 titles.
