French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has filed trademark applications for its name and logo, signaling its intention to enter the metaverse and the non-fungible token (NFT) space.
According to the trademark applications, filed with the USPTO on January 12, 2023, the company intends to offer virtual goods (perfumery, makeup, skincare, and hair care products) for use in the metaverse and other virtual environments.
The brands also specify downloadable multimedia files-including illustrations, text, music, and video-authenticated by NFT and related to these virtual products.
Other plans include offering online sales services for virtual goods.
Michael Kondoudis, an attorney specializing in trademarks and Web3-related applications, tweeted the news.

On March 16, three new applications were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the name “Saint Laurent,” an Yves Saint Laurent word mark, and a woven YSL logo.
At the time, Saint Laurent planned to launch NFT, as it’s Class 42 trademark application included “downloadable, registered virtual goods containing NFT-supported fashion-related illustrations, text, audio and video for use in the metaverse and other Web3 environments”; “authentication, issuance, and validation of digital certificates” and “non-fungible token design.”
French fashion houses on Web3
Yves Saint Laurent is not the only French luxury fashion house approaching Web3; Hermès and Louis Vuitton submitted similar applications last year to enter the metaverse and adopt NFT.
Other fashion and beauty houses on Web3
Beauty companies have entered the metaverse, considered a multibillion-dollar industry.
Last year, Clinique, a subsidiary of Estée Lauder, launched its first NFT. In February, L’Oréal introduced several brands for its subsidiaries to offer NFTs.
