Autograph will release a series of Tony Hawk NFTs that can be converted into 3D voxels to unlock utility in The Sandbox.

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has teamed up with Tom Brady Autograph’s NFT platform and The Sandbox to create the largest skatepark in the metaverse.

Built on a 6×6 terrain, Tony Hawk’s metaverse skatepark will feature themed experiences.

In this partnership Autograph will launch a series of avatars based on Hawk’s likeness and NFTs of his most iconic skateboards, gear and apparel, including the board he used to land the 900, one of the most technically demanding moves in skateboarding at the 1999 X Games.

Tony Hawk’s NFT avatars released by Autograph will be interoperable in The Sandbox, as they can be converted into 3D voxels with added in-game functionality and utility.

“I’ve been a fan of new technology all my life, since the first video games and home computers with CGI capabilities, so I’m fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture to this landscape,” said Tony Hawk.

A world champion skateboarder for 12 straight years, Hawk has inspired 20 games and other products over the course of his career.

Some of the best-selling game titles include the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series and the 2003 title Tony Hawk’s Underground.

“Tony Hawk embodies the perseverance to constantly strive to improve without ever giving up, which has made him a skateboarding legend and successful entrepreneur,” said Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox. “We share his passion for innovation, creativity and the drive to constantly create something: this is the energy that drives our entertainment metaverse. There’s no better way to bring skateboarding culture to The Sandbox than by following the lead of the greatest skateboarder of all time, whose legacy extends from the earliest days of the sport and lifestyle to the present and beyond.”

Hawk and Autograph have previously teamed up to release an NFT collection that came with a signed physical skateboard in April, as well as his “Last Trick” NFT collection last December, featuring five animated digital collectibles depicting his signature moves.

“At Autograph, we strive to build experiences that would otherwise be impossible for fan communities and this is a step toward our goal of connecting them in a unique way and at scale with Tony Hawk and each other,” said Dillon Rosenblatt, co-founder and CEO of Autograph. “We are thrilled to be working with The Sandbox and Tony Hawk on this activation and many others.”
