Solana Mobile has just launched an Android cell phone or smartphone that allows potentially billions of users to connect on Web3.

Solana Mobile is a subsidiary of Solana Labs, an open source software developer and contributor to the Solana software and Solana protocol.

Solana is a decentralized blockchain. The new Web3 phone is called ‘Saga’. Buyers can reserve. However delivery is not until early 2023.

Solana Mobile says, “Those who pre-order may be eligible to receive a Saga Pass, an NFT that accompanies the first wave of Saga devices and the first ticket to influence the direction of the SMS platform.”

Solana Mobile blockchain integration

The Android cell phone is tightly integrated with the Solana blockchain. This, the protocol promises, makes it easy and secure to transact on Web3.

You can also use it to manage digital assets such as tokens and NFT.

Anatoly Yakovenko is the co-founder of Solana. “Nearly 7 billion people use smartphones worldwide and more than 100 million people have digital assets, and both numbers will continue to grow. Saga sets a new standard for the web3 experience on mobile devices.”

The organization behind Saga intends to embrace much of the cryptographic development on smartphones with the boost of native applications on top of Solana’s software, which will provide improvements in its security and execution algorithms.

Solana Lab develops native code for web3 execution

A year ago, Solana Lab’s team of engineers began work to reinvent Web3, with solutions designed for mobile devices or smartphones.

One of the fundamental elements in this project is the absence of giants such as Apple and Google, who had not given any progress or information on this type of development. Solana observed this shortcoming and proposed solutions.

The lack of native code for this type of innovation was one of the first elements to be addressed with Solana Mobile Stack, an open source system specially developed for Android.

The Saga Begins - June 23 - NYC

Solana Mobile Stack allows the execution of native Web3 applications on the Android system, running directly on the Solana network.

Security will always be a fundamental aspect, so Solana Mobile Stack has a protocol to facilitate instant transaction signatures, keeping passwords private at all times and always separated from the wallet.

Saga the smartphone for web3

Based on the development of the aforementioned software, Saga was born, a smartphone that seeks to bring Web 3.0 to the palm of the hand.

Raj Gokal, co-founder of Solana, indicated that the name Saga is due to the fact that the story of cryptocurrencies is still in development and this is just one chapter of the narrative.

The design of the mobile device was done by OSOM, a company dedicated to developing hardware for Intel, Apple and Google.

Each Saga phone has an integrated Solana Mobile Stack and an Android operating system.

The first Saga phones will come with an NFT that can be used to become part of the project’s DAO.

Several ecosystems have given their support to the Solana project, among them: Magic Eden, Okay Bears, Coral, Phantom, StepN and Orca.

Saga technical specifications

Like any other smartphone, Saga has technical features that enable its functionality within the crypto world and everyday activities. The main features are:

  • 6.67-inch OLED display.
  • 512 GB of internal storage.
  • 12 GB of RAM.
  • Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.
  • Solana Mobile Stack seed vault.
  • Seed Vault for password privacy.

Detailed specifications

It will have hardware for the secure storage of private keys, will have its own decentralized application store (DApps), as well as providing access to forums, events, newsletters related to the crypto world, among other features.

Despite being focused on the crypto world, users who are interested in this model but are not interested in these specific features can also disable them for normal use as in any other high-end Android.

Regarding the specifications, it brings as processor the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 accompanied by 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS internal storage, being also compatible with microSD cards for storage expansion by up to another 512GB.

The screen is a 6.67″ FullHD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Regarding the photographic section, in the rear camera configuration comes a 50MP main camera (OIS, f1.8) + 12MP ultra wide-angle camera (f/2.4), while it will feature a 16MP front camera.

The battery is perhaps one of the aspects in which it may fall short, counting with a capacity of 4110mAh compatible with the Qi wireless charging standard. Regarding connectivity, it is compatible with 5G networks, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, UWB, and also has an NFC chip.

Regarding the finish, it has a frame made of titanium and the back is made of ceramic, which makes this model also comes to weigh much more, up to 247 grams.

Regarding the operating system, it will come with a pure version of Android 13 with Google Play Services integrated.

Those who want to pre-order their Saga mobile devices can do so with a deposit of USD 100, which will be deducted from the final price of USD 1,000.

Followers of the crypto world can now set their sights on Solana Saga, the Android smartphone model that Solana Mobile, in partnership with OSOM Privacy, a privacy-focused product creation company created by former Essential employees, will launch in early 2023 on the market.
