Macy’s has launched a metaverse experience to commemorate the 96th Thanksgiving Parade.

The U.S. retailer has announced the Parade Metaverse Experience, an immersive event that will invite fans to raise funds for the nonprofit Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Fans will also be able to vote for five non-fungible token (NFT) designs that will appear on the Macy’s Parade balloon for the 2023 party. The experience launches on the OnCyber metaverse platform and will be accessible on desktop and mobile platforms at macys.com/nft.
The experience will include virtual galleries of five NFT designs, giving fans the opportunity to choose the first Macy’s Parade NFT ball.
“As we count down to the 96th Macy’s Parade, we are excited to bring this show once again to the virtual web3 space with a fun experience that gives voice to our fans, collectors and our highly engaged Discord community,” said Will Coss, executive producer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“Last parade’s NFT collection was so successful that we wanted to give our online community the opportunity to choose a native NFT design to transform into a Macy’s parade balloon, while creating an important fundraising opportunity for our partner Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.”
The virtual galleries are selected from some of NFT’s best collections, including Boss Beauties, Cool Cats, gmoney, SupDucks and VeeFriends.
The virtual event kicks off during this year’s Thanksgiving vacation, Thursday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. EST, through Sunday, Dec. 4. EST, through Sunday, Dec. 4 at 11:59 p.m. EST. EST.
The winning design will be made into an actual balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2023.
Macy’s has promised digital collectibles to the first 100,000 fans who participate in the voting. The parade metaverse is produced in collaboration with agency Media.Monks and Transparent House.
