Another popular music group is joining The Sandbox virtual world, as Animoca Brands subsidiary Animoca Brands announced Wednesday that Jamiroquai is now a partner in the project. Jamiroquai is an award-winning group that plays funk, acid jazz, soul, disco and R&B, and is fronted by band leader Jay Kay.

Jamiroquai is known for hit songs such as “Virtual Insanity” and “Canned Heat,” and Virtual Insanity was named MTV’s Video of the Year in 1997. The song also earned Jamiroquai a Grammy Award the following year.

“The strategic collaboration was developed in partnership with Bravado, the industry-leading brand management division of Universal Music Group,” the blockchain-based metaverse company said Wednesday. The announcement adds:

“The legendary jazz-funk band will bring virtual insanity to its virtual land in The Sandbox.”

“Jamiroquai has always been forward-thinking and super social – creating a land where everyone can come together at The Sandbox with a bit of funk, freedom and fashion will provide a communal place to digitally connect with our fans and fellow music lovers,” said Jamiroquai. “We look forward to telling you more soon, but for now we can say that hats will definitely be involved.”

Part virtual real estate, part amusement park, The Sandbox fully embraces the idea of the metaverse as an ongoing shared digital space where worlds and heroes collide to make magic. Jamiroquai joins more than 200 existing collaborations, including Ubisoft, The Rabbids, Gucci Vault, The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead, Snoop Dogg, Adidas, The Smurfs, Care Bears, Atari, ZEPETO and CryptoKitties, all following The Sandbox team’s vision of giving players the ability to create their own experiences using both original and familiar characters and worlds.

“The metaverse is driving creativity through new forms of expression and technology in the music and entertainment industry, and it is an honor to welcome Jamiroquai to The Sandbox,” said Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox. “We now have partnerships with several legendary artists and music labels, including Snoop Dogg, Jamiroquai, BLOND:ISH and Deadmau5, and we are excited to make The Sandbox a home where artists can connect with their fans in a direct and genuine way.”

“As a former Universal Music Group executive, I am thrilled that Jamiroquai, one of the music industry’s most innovative talents, is joining The Sandbox, showcasing the importance of the metaverse as a platform for the music community,” said Bertrand Levy, VP Global Partnerships at The Sandbox.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer a new method of interaction between artists and their fans and can’t wait to welcome them to Jamiroquai’s world with The Sandbox,” said Racheal Redfearn, SVP A&R and Brand Management at Bravado. “Through the new partnerships, we can help our artists deliver content, commerce and creativity to fans directly, as fully immersive and innovative experiences.” Both Bravado and Universal Music Group are excited to help fans explore the metaverse, alongside their favorite artists, and the endless possibilities it will open up for fans to engage more deeply with an artist’s vision.”

According to the announcement, more details about the collaboration with Jamiroquai will be “revealed in the coming months.” The Sandbox, along with competitor Decentraland, has been a popular blockchain-based virtual world. However, the native crypto tokens of both projects have been hit hard in recent times.
