Just a few months ago, a well-known leaker discovered some lines of VR code in the latest Fortnite update and suspected possible VR support for Fortnite. However, Epic Games’ CEO personally denies any plans for a VR implementation of the hit game.

In an interview with The Verge, VR and Metaverse enthusiast Tim Sweeney explains why Fortnite won’t have a VR implementation: it simply wouldn’t work.

“What we do in Fortnite every day as players is run through an environment quickly, and it’s the kind of experience that involves intense movement and doesn’t work as well in VR,” Sweeney said.

While Sweeney gives a pass on a VR implementation of Fortnite, Epic Games isn’t closing its mind to virtual reality.

“If we had been to ever do some thing in VR, it would must be some thing genuinely tailored to the experience. And it is not that we have a bad view on it. There’s simply a whole lot of stuff to do,” Sweeney says.

He has also said that collaborations with other companies in the Metaverse are always an option for Epic Games: “We’re a very open company. We’ll partner with any company on metaverse collaborations and open metaverse efforts in any way we can be productive with them.”
