MetaWorld Entertainment will bring concert events and immersive gaming experiences to the metaverse on Web3 in 2023.
Michael Zhang, CEO of Firefly Games, has announced the formation of a new company called MetaWorld Entertainment following an initial investment round from The Sandbox, Com2uS, CRIT Ventures and Formless Capital.
Metaworld Partners
Key partners in this new MetaWorld Entertainment venture include decentralized virtual game world The Sandbox and Com2uS, a South Korean online and mobile game development and publishing company.
Zhang describes MetaWorld’s vision of Web3 as “the entertainment venue of the new digital age, where audiences will play, engage and interact with new levels of immersion.”
In addition to leading Firefly Games, Zhang will also serve as CEO of MetaWorld.
Firefly collaborations
Firefly has collaborated with Hollywood studios on the development of mobile games based on popular IPs, including DreamWorks’ Universe of Legends, DreamWorks’ Terminator: Dark Fate, and MGA Entertainment’s mobile tic-tac-toe game LoL Surprise! Room Maker, among others.
Firefly also represents the North American distribution of Asian mobile games such as My Name is MT2.
MetaWorld Entertainment
MetaWorld Entertainment will be an integrated entertainment company offering concerts, events and games to the global market through metaverse platforms, such as The Sandbox.
It will also serve as a developer and publisher of multiple experiences and games.
“We have the advantage of leveraging great technology and our expertise to create engaging and meaningful experiences for people. This allows us to think more from the user’s perspective: what meaningful experiences can we bring to them and what value this will give them,” commented Zhang.
With the support of key partners such as Agora and its real-time audio technology. MetaWorld will also leverage its partners’ Web2 game publishing expertise to target a mass gaming audience, while offering blockchain games that run on the play-and-win model, through which players can also earn virtual currencies.
Through the new play to earn entertainment experiences, the company plans to drive broader adoption of Web3.
“The Sandbox is pleased to support veteran gaming entrepreneur Michael Zhang’s entry into the metaverse by establishing his next gaming venture as a metaverse-building studio,” said Sebastien BORGET, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox. “We believe he will leverage his expertise and the creativity of his team to build fun and engaging games and diversified experiences on The Sandbox platform, starting with the Atari games available in Season Alpha 3 and with more brands to be announced soon.”
