The NFT collection pays tribute to all past competitors with iconic moments from the 15-year history of the World Salsa Championship.
ESPN’s World Salsa Championship celebrated its 15th anniversary on January 12, 2023, and to celebrate, launched an NFT collection. While we don’t usually associate the NFT with dance, the organization behind the competition and Noel Roque, CEO of the World Dance Group, have taken the bold step of linking the two.
Thus, the WSC Golden Moves NFT collection was launched as a tribute to the competition’s legacy.

The ESPN World Salsa Championships (WSC)
The ESPN World Salsa Championships (WSC), which brings together every four years the most outstanding dancers from five continents to compete for glory and money, celebrated its 15th anniversary on January 12 with the launch of an NFT collection.
Using various digital art techniques, the limited-edition collection pays tribute to all former competitors who have participated in the championships since 2005.
Among the NFT artwork in the collection is a caricature drawn by cartoonist Fernando L. Roque from a group photo taken at the sixth edition in Atlanta, GA, in 2016.
Other works include rare digital artworks generated entirely by artificial intelligence, reproducing scenes from some of the most iconic moments of the World Salsa Championships held in Miami, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Orlando and other cities.
In addition to static NFTs, the collection also includes NFT videos of top competitors, such as world champion Oliver Pineda and his partner Luda Kroitor, who took first place at the inaugural World Salsa Championships in Las Vegas.
Each NFT in the collection – minted on the Polygon blockchain – costs 0.04 ETH (or about $62) and is available for purchase on OpenSea.
In addition to owning a piece of dance history, purchasers of the NFT will directly benefit the champions, to whom a significant portion of the collection’s proceeds will go.
In addition, each holder of the 15th anniversary NFT will receive perks such as a VIP invitation to the upcoming ESPN World Salsa Championships event.
NFT Collection details
According to the official announcement, this collection pays tribute to all participants in the competition since 2005. In this regard, the collection’s assets feature digital art and video content from the various dance styles the championship has seen over the years.
In addition to the sentimental and historical value that buyers will enjoy, star dancers will also benefit. The Championship has announced that proceeds from the sale of the NFTs will be shared with the dancers featured in the clips.
The NFTs, for sale on both the Championship website and OpenSea, were created in collaboration with Paddy Jones, veteran dancer and current world record holder for “oldest acrobatic salsa dancer,” who also appears in one of the NFTs.
